A new link for the Late Signing on Form for Player Registrations has been set up, you wil now find the link located on the top left Vertical Menu on every page. MIXED LEAGUE GETS UNDER WAY
The Inaugural Stroud and District Mixed League commenced on Monday 14th September 2009, with the opening fixture played between Matchplay Newbies and Family Affair.
Matchplay Newbies
Family Affair
Reece Walworth became the first player to bowl, hitting a score of 7 for Matchplay Newbies. The first five players scored a total of 27, however Matt Upshall at number seven hit a 13-spare, which was followed up by a 15 spare by anchor Harley Daves, as Matchplay Newbies totalled 62. Steff Curtis set for Family Affair hitting a 6 in response. Chris Read followed up with a score of 5, and Steff Glowaski hit a 13-spare; however Family Affair were unable to match the total of the former, scoring 50 in their first leg, resulting in Matchplay Newbies taking the first points of the season.

"STROUD MIXED LEAGUE" TO COMMENCE FOR SEASON 2009-2010
In response to the general interest and to aid those teams struggling for players, the Stroud and District Skittle League "Stroud Mixed League" will commence as of Season 2009-2010.
The aim of the league is to form a new Social Leauge which will provide an alternative to those teams who are struggling for players, as well as look to attract new teams to the League.
As a new league we have been able to look at the what we consider are the current issues and have decided to try a new format, which we hope will provide interest and encourage players to take up the game. The format chosen is as follows
Format - Mixed (teams to consist of a minimum of 1 Male and 1 Female player)
Number of Players - 8 / Number of Legs - 8
Playing format - Straight through / No Halves
Points System - Points Per Leg / 4 points for the game
Cup Competitions - None
Entrance Fee - £32.50
The league will initially commence with 6 teams, however if your team is interested in switching league for Season 2010-2011, or you would be keen to form a new team to join the league we would be happy to hear from you. Please contact the league Secretary, either by telephone or email at stroudskittles@aol.com for further details.
RESULT CARD ERRORS COULD COST YOUR TEAM POINTS
In the last few weeks there have been a number of result cards where the individual player totals and half totals do not agree; in some cases altering the match result. Where such errors are found the individual player score will be taken as correct. This could cost your team points. To alter results teams will incur a fine. To ensure your results are correct and your team does not incur a fine please ensure the scores on your card are correct and the half total adds up.
FIXTURE LIST NOW AVAILABLE ON LINE
In order to help teams members know their Stroud and District Skittle League Fixture a new facility has been made available on line.
The On Line Fixture List provides you with the dates for all your League fixtures for the current season, and can be accessed by simply clicking on your team name, either in the League Table, or the Team Number page. You can then Download or Print off your list as required.
The list is if your current fixtures as stated in your League Handbook, and does not take into account cancelled or re-arranged games.
In time I plan to add a few more features.
I would like to express my thanks to Pete Stump who provided with a great deal of assistance to set up these pages.
CHANGE OR DIE?
With the new season only a month old, already I'm aware that there are a number of teams who are struggling and have grave concerns that the Stroud League will go further into decline unless action is taken.
My own view is that the league needs to change the current format. Why does the league have seperate Mens and Ladies Sections; why not one open league? Is 10-players too many? Does playing two halves cause problems?
In the past 10-years the league has declined from 176 to 127 teams, a drop of 25%.
I am keen to optain the thoughts of team members, especially Captains and Secretaries, as they are the people who try to hold the team together. There is a Section on the League Message Board where you can post your thoughts and comments. Alternatevely I can be contacted by email through the Feedback Form.
I invite and urge all members of the league to post their views, as if nothing happens all I can see is that the league will eventually die.
LATE FINISHES A CAUSE FOR CONCERN
Although not a major problem in the Ladies sections (or at least as far as I'm aware), one of the biggest moans the Secretary receives during the season is the late finish of games, in particular in the Mens Sections. Games starting late have an effect, as does the speed and skill of the sticker; but the Secretary is of the view that the halftime break plays the biggest problem. With the growing trend in the Mens Sections for food it has resulted in what should be quick 5-minute break lasting around 20 minutes. This has a major effect on the time the game finishes. Teams are therefore asked to take this into consideration to aid an earlier finish to your games.
TEAMS REMINDED PLEASE FILL IN YOUR RESULT CARD CORRECTLY OR FACE A FINE
All Team Captains and Secretaries are reminded to check that they have completed their Result Cards correctly. The Fixture Secretary has again received a number of Cards where player names are incorrect (not signed on, missing or duplicated), and Incorrect totals due to the Individual Player scores and the Half total not agreeing. The Secretary and Fixture Secretary has received calls where teams claim their points are incorrect, and this is down to these errors. Where the Individual Player scores and Half Total do not add up the Individual player scores are taken as correct. Amending errors not only costs the league money, your money, (phone calls, letters etc.), it also causes the Fixture Secretary inconvenience. It is the responsibility of EACH team to ensure their half of the Result Card is completed correctly, and where errors occur fines are being issued. I would also like to remind Home teams to ensure they pass the Result Card to the Away team at the earliest possible opportunity - and no later than the end of the first half.
The solution to the problem is simple and makes the running of the league easier and smoother, 'PLEASE ENSURE YOUR RESULT CARD IS FILLED IN CORRECTLY'.
FEEDBACK WANTED
Something that the Stroud League receive very little of is Feedback regarding the league. We often hear of problems second or third hand, and as a course it is impossible to take any action. I am extremely keen for team members to provide me with feedback on their views regarding the league, this can be done by using the Feedback Form, for which the link can be found on the left hand side of the menu, by email to stroudskittles@aol.com or by post. Alternatevely you can post a message on the League Message Board and obtain other teams views.
Without feedback it is difficult to judge what teams want from the league.
